“Fatima” - The Movie, Tues., May 13, Feast of Our Lady of Fatima, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Carlo Acutis Room, Lower Level of OLOL, next to the elevator. “Fatima” is a 2020 faith-based film about 3 Portuguese shepherd children: Lucia age 10, her cousins, Francisco age 9, and Jacinta age 7 , who experienced a series of apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Fatima, Portugal in 1917, who delivered messages of prayer and peace. The story is set against the backdrop of WWI and relates the struggles the 3 children encountered from doubting family members as well as church and government officials, all of whom tried to silence them. Jacinta and Francisco died in 1919 and 1920 (respectively) during the Spanish flu epidemic, and were declared saints of the church by Pope Francis in 2017, marking the 100th anniversary of the apparitions. They are the youngest non-martyr saints in the Church’s history. Lucia went on to join the Carmelites and died in 2005 at the age of 97 in Portugal. She was declared “Venerable” by Pope Francis in 2023, and her cause for sainthood continues. All are welcome to join us for this inspiring film experience on an 80-inch screen in the newly remodeled Blessed Carlo Acutis room below the OLOL gathering space (elevator access) on Tuesday, May 13, on the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima.
