COURAGE IN RED Red Wednesday Red Wednesday is a relatively recent observance introduced by the Catholic Church to honor and remember Christian martyrs and to raise awareness about religious persecution. It is an initiative of Aid to the Church in Need, a Catholic Charity dedicated to the support of suffering and persecuted Christians. From November 17 to November 24, Our Lady of Lourdes will be “bathed in a soft red light” to remember today’s martyrs and to support all persecuted Christians. The color red symbolizes the blood of martyrs and the sacrifices they made for their faith. Martyrdom and persecution are often quiet today. As a church let us stand up for religious freedom and for those martyred and persecuted. A short Vesper Service will take place on Red Wednesday, November 20, at 6:30pm. Please join us as we pray for all martyrs, those from the time of Christ to the modern-day martyrs.
